In Memoriam
Arabinda Ray

Remember him in his variety,
a manager of men. Good company
was in his gift. His mind was deep and free
and visible the soul. Adversity
was simply met: for half a century’s span
a polio case – but never a victim he.
He worked and travelled far. A businessman
who scanned the roots of the economy,
who offered a pragmatic empathy,
who drank deep of the well of poetry,
who knew the arts, the pattern of history,
the tides of the present time … here was a man
to grace an age. Now to his memory
let silence speak as only silence can.
